π Description
The IFCD is a UNESCO funding program under the 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions. Its goal is to strengthen cultural industries in developing countries by supporting policies, capacity building, and systems that help create, produce, and distribute diverse cultural goods and services.
π Scope of Interest
The fund supports projects that create structural and sustainable change, especially in:
– Cultural policy development and implementation
– Capacity building for public institutions and civil society
– Market access and financing mechanisms for creative industries
– Participation in cultural life, especially for vulnerable groups
– Gender equality in cultural and creative sectors
– Development of cultural industries in the digital environment
– Tools for mapping, data systems, and sectoral strategies.
π° Funding
– Maximum request: USD 100,000
– Disbursement: 50 percent at start, 30 percent mid-project, 20 percent upon completion
– Budget must include project communication and an external audit
– Overheads must not exceed 30 percent
– Co-funding is strongly recommended but not mandatory
ποΈ Eligibility
Applicants must be:
β’ Public authorities/institutions from eligible developing countries that are Parties to the 2005 Convention
β’ NGOs from eligible developing countries (must meet the Conventionβs definition of civil society)
β’ INGOs registered in a Party country and implementing projects in two or more eligible developing countries with regional/subregional impact
Projects not eligible include: heritage conservation, construction/renovation, artistic production only, tourism-focused projects, scholarships, recurring operational activities, and offsetting debts.
