AITunanetra: An AI-Based Walking Assistance Innovation for the Visually Impaired

AITunanetra is an artificial intelligence-based innovation developed by the Center of Excellence for Motion Technology for Safety, Health, and Wellness (MOSHEE), a flagship research center under the Research Institute of Sustainable Society (RISS). This application serves as an assistive technology solution for individuals with visual impairments (low vision), supporting their independence and safety in daily activities.
By leveraging deep learning technology, LIDAR sensors, and smart cameras, AITunanetra can detect objects and obstacles around the user in real time. Its integrated image-processing system identifies potential hazards and provides informative, responsive voice instructions, enabling users to navigate their surroundings more safely and confidently, whether indoors or in public spaces.

The development of AITunanetra reflects MOSHEE’s commitment to delivering technology innovations focused on inclusivity, safety, and well-being, particularly for people with disabilities. Through this research, the team aims to bridge the gap between technological advancement and the real needs of communities requiring intelligent mobility support.
